I paint because it makes me feel complete. The process of painting, somehow, makes everything else make sense. People, struggle, love, hate, subtleties, the creations and destructions of humanity, the commonalities of being human. The comprehension of these things doesn't feel out of reach when I approach them through painting. The hard part is making it through the time when I am not painting. That is my struggle.

Dan has been extremely active in the gay community, using art as an effective means of communicating what it means to be gay in a largely straight world

As I paint, sometimes other personal psychological meanings come to mind. For example, in 'Keep Left', with the women in the foreground and men in the background, I celebrate feminine unity and their mutual protection.

I work in a highly communicative, but silent medium. I paint.

Susan’s mission as an artist is to bring joy to others through the color and emotional connection of her images. She believes the human spirit requires care and feeding, and that art provides an essential part of that nourishment.
